Caring for your new paint finish ::: Simple tips!
Do not use a machine polisher unless you use exactly the right pad,
polish, and technique. This will cause squiggly swirl marks on dark
colors that will look awful in the sunlight.
- Use touch less car washes
- If you wash your own car, rinse thoroughly before touching the surface.
Wash with a soft clean wash mitt. Any dirt between the paint and your
mitt will scratch the finish.
|
Use a “California
Water Blade”
Squeegee and a micro fiber during cloth (available from us) for drying
your car. Micro fiber drying cloths absorb more water, leave virtually
no streaks or water spots. Combined, these 2 products are much faster
than the conventional chamois and not induce fine scratches like other
synthetic drying cloths.
|
|
Do not use rubbing compound on your car’s finish. If you have a
blemish that wax will not remove, you can purchase material from us that
are aggressive enough to polish out defects but will not dull the finish
unlike compound sold at auto parts stores.
|
Wax your car at least
3 times per year.
We recommendVery Cherry Wet Wax (available for sale from us). Wet Wax is easy to apply,
comes off in one pass of the cloth when dry, contains no harmful abrasives,
and removes light oils and tars. It provides long lasting water beading
and gloss.
Stone Chips and Scratches
It is true that clear coated finishes are more durable than single stage
finishes, however, it is not as bulletproof as many of us would like.
Stones hurled at the car at 60 plus miles an hour will chip the paint.
|
For these unfortunate realities, we provide touch up paint with every
repair. The best way to apply touch up paint is to open a paper clip,
dip the end 1/8” into the paint, and touch the tip of the clip to
the center of the chip. Delicately move the tip of the clip around just
enough to distribute the paint to the edges of the chip without going
over the edges. You should only bother with chips that are 1/16”
or larger. Touching up chips smaller that that looks worse that just leaving
the paint chip alone.
|
Don’t use a paintbrush!
It will apply too much material, and will slop paint beyond
the boundaries of the chip itself.
Scratches can often be wet sanded out by us if they are not completely
through the clear coat. If they are too deep to remove, we can often repair
them without having to repaint the entire panel saving time and money.
